The Meaning of the Cross
What do we learn today? - To understand the meaning of the cross, we need to realize that forgiveness is costly. There is no such thing as “simply forgive”. Forgiveness is a form of suffering. Indeed, forgiveness is most needed by a person who deserves it the least. The cross then is a symbol of divine forgiveness. It is a reminder that we may also learn to forgive as God has forgiven us.
- To understand the meaning of the cross, we need to realize that not only God is love, he is also a just and righteous God. God is a god who loves justice and righteousness. These are the characteristics of God that cannot be compromised. The cross then is a show of both God’s love and righteousness. It is the ultimate show of the uncompromising love. God shows his love without compromising his justice. It is a reminder for us that we may also show our love to one another without compromising our value.
